National Apprenticeship Week 2017

It’s the 10th National Apprenticeship Week!

For many young people, an apprenticeship is an attractive alternative to going to university.

There are many reasons why you may choose to undertake an apprenticeship. For many, the fact that you can earn while you learn and gain financial independence is the key benefit. There are many other benefits though, such as learning in a way that is best suited to you through hands-on experience on the job, getting paid holidays, receiving training and gaining qualifications, learning job-specific skills, making valuable contacts, and impressing future employers.

What do you need in order to do an apprenticeship?

Employers might ask for two or more GCSE grades (A*-C) or equivalent. For some intermediate apprenticeships, however, you might not need any formal qualifications. If you don’t have GCSEs in English and Maths, though, you’ll usually be required to take a basic numeracy and literacy test.

National Apprenticeship Week runs from 6th to 10th March 2017.

GCE Science Practical Endorsement

The Department for Education (DfE) and Ofqual have mandated that any candidate undertaking a reformed A/AS Level Science specification with a JCQ awarding body (AQA, Edexcel, OCR) must be given the opportunity to attempt the accompanying Practical Endorsement at the same centre with which they are sitting the written papers. In other words, if you wish to attend Macclesfield Tutorial College and attempt the Practical Endorsement in our fully equipped laboratory, you must also be entered for the written examinations with our Examination Centre.

Attempting the Practical Endorsement is not compulsory, although the development and testing of practical skills is a central component of all A Level Science qualifications, so some experience in a laboratory will prove invaluable and maximise your chances of success in the written exams since a proportion of the questions will focus on practical skills and data interpretation.

Please visit our GCE Science Practical Requirements page for full details, including the value for money Practical Packages we offer.

Late Exam Entry Fees

Between 15th February 2017 and 15th March 2017, examination entries will incur Late Entry Fees. Please check our price list – Exam Entry Fees – to view the current prices.

All entries made after 15th March 2017 will be regarded as Very Late and will be subject to a further price increase.

This is due to the examination boards increasing their entry fees at these times.
